1 | Booted EagleHieraaetus pennatus Light morph. Distinctly small eagle shaped raptor about the size of expected Common Buzzard but with totally wrong shape came up over hill and immediately drew both of our attention. Prominent primary "fingers," wrong shape for expected Common Buzzard, one of which flew by a few minutes later. Both raptors harassed by a Eurasian Kestrel, which provided a good size comparison. About Common Buzzard sized, but in addition to structural differences, was entirely creamy pale on head, chest, belly, contrasting starkly with dark/black primaries and secondaries. No cameras on us as we were walking to store, but RK managed a poor (but hopefully diagnostic) cell phone video through her binoculars. Stills from this video will be added to checklist. |
