A large flock - clinged to the walls and crevices of the castle fortification wall, would then swarm above and hunt on the wing, only to fly as a flock to the wall, cling for a minute or two and repeat their aerial acrobatics. The castle wall was exposed to the sun - maybe the birds were seeking warmth or sun exposure on the wall?
