XCommon SwiftApus apus
Listening to the Swifts this evening, Merlin registered Common Swift calls a few times, but Pallid Swifts calls were much more frequent, and I don't entirely trust Merlin as it registered Hoopoe calling, which I think was a distant dog barking! Certainly as April progresses then Common Swifts will become more abundant but at the moment they are vastly outnumbered by Pallids. I'll keep listening with Merlin in case it picks up Plain Swift!
XPallid SwiftApus pallidus
Listening to the large flock of Swifts this evening and using Merlin, to my ears most of the calls were Pallid Swifts, and when the flock was low and clearly audible, Merlin was also registering lots of Pallid Swift calls, Pallid Swifts are the most abundant swifts in Coimbra City for most of the year, apart from mid-April to mid-July when Common Swifts are more abundant.
