110 | Cagarra/Cagarra-do-mediterrâneoCalonectris borealis/diomedea Conservative count; photos. Also, of interest is a shearwater in the centre left of one of the photos that appears to have a prominent white panel on the upper side of its wings, suggesting Manx-type. This could be an artifact of lighting (or perhaps even an illusion and it's actually the underwing), but no other individuals photographed gave this impression. |
3 | Fura-bucho-das-balearesPuffinus mauretanicus First (not photographed) was a noticeably smaller, flappier shearwater with flock of 12 Cory's/Scppoli's. The two photos show two relatively chunky, rounded-winged shearwaters (compared to the many Cory's/Scopoli's flying by) with apparent dark under tails. |
1 | cagarra/pardela sp.Procellariidae sp. (shearwater sp.) Unfamiliar species for me, but the extent of white in primaries of the banking shearwater on the right suggests Scopoli's. Acknowledged that this may simply be due to photo quality. Of the ~100+ Cory's/Scopoli's I saw and photographed here this afternoon, this is the only one that offered anything close to possibility of i.d. to species. |
