After first visiting this hotspot looking for the bird, without success, the observers headed to the large Santa Águeda dam, where it was spotted resting in the water around the following area: 39.993323, -7.483577. The observation took place from the western end of the dam wall (39.969407, -7.484521), from where it was possible to recognize, with the use of binoculars and fieldscopes, the compact shape of the bird, the rounded head, and the overall black and white plumage, most notably the white flanks contrasting with the black back and black head with rounded white loral spots. Poor distant photos to be added. |
